Successfully presenting your fly at the appropriate depth is crucial for effective fishing. The 10ft Commando Tips are particularly well-suited for swung fly presentations targeting steelhead and salmon, offering versatility in a variety of water conditions. It is essential to recognise that not all runs demand the heaviest sink tip; shallower waters and riffles can be equally productive, especially during high water scenarios. The Commando Tips provide anglers with three distinct sink rates—Riffle, Run, and Bucket—tailored for shallow, medium, and deep presentations, thereby enhancing your angling proficiency across different environments. Specifically, for the 80 grain tips, Riffle aligns with S2, Run with S4, and Bucket with S6, while the 110 and 140 grain options correlate Riffle to S3, Run to S6, and Bucket to S9.

Commando Heads are shorter, more dense, and have a larger diameter than other skagit lines. Because of their very short length, a much higher proportion of the total line/head length is on the surface of the water in the back-cast, D- or V-Loop, thus providing more line adehsion. This enables you to use a much lighter grain/gram weight when compared to longer skagit heads. As a rule of thumb you can drop the line weight by appx. 5/6 Grams or 75/90 grains when moving to a commando system. Please do not pair OPST lines based on rod manufacturer grain windows, unless it specified for Commando Heads.
